Today I got a chance to test the new Blackberry Curve 9220. Blackberry Curve 9220 was recently launched in India. Blackberry OS 7.1 and FM radio are the two cool features present in the new Blackberry Curve 9220. The first thing which I noticed about the phone is that it is very light in weight.
Display
Blackberry curve 9220 qVGA 320×240 resolution display. It has a 2.44 inch TFT Lcd screen. The Display was quite bright and we had no problems while reading text or watching a video clip.
Performance
The phone runs on a 800 MHz processor with 512MB RAM and 512 ROM which is capable enough for running most of the apps available in the blackberry appstore. We tested few applications and games on the phone and they all were running smoothly without any lag or issues.
Battery Life
The phone has a great battery life. Once fully charged we were table to use it for around 2 days. During those 2 days we played music, browsed internet on wifi and even talked to our friends for around 1.5 hours. The phone uses a 1450 mAh rechargeable lithium ion battery. The phone offers upto 7 hours of talktime or upto 18 days of standby time. According to company you can easily play music upto 28 hours during headset usage.
Camera
Blackberry curve 9220 has a 2 megapixel camera. It offers upto 5x digital zoom and supports video recording. Camera quality of the phone was quite decent.
Easy To Use
Phone has a 35 key backlit qwerty keyboard. Just like most of the blackberry handsets phone also has optical track pad. You can find Send & Menu keys on the left hand side of the trackpad and ESC & End keys on the right. Company has also provided number of dedicated keys for faster access to most useful features. Dedicated keys include Power key, menu, escape, volume up/down, mute, BBM dedicated key and Lock key.
Other Features
The sound quality of the speaker is pretty decent. The phone supports nearly all major audio and video formats. Company has given a microusb v2.0 slot for data transfer between mobile and computer. It supports WIFI, Gprs, Edge and has bluetooth v2.1. Bad part is it does not support 3g. But if you are not looking for a 3g phone then blackberry curve 9220 is surely a great phone for you.
Final Verdict
Overall Blackberry curve 9220 is really a great phone with lots of features. The only downside of the phone is that it does not support 3G and also lacks inbuilt GPS. With a price tag of Rs 10,990 the phone would surely gain some attention in the market.
