Huawei P20 Pro and P20 With Best Rated Cameras and Display Notch Go Official

Huawei today launched its two much-awaited P-series phones, the P20 and the P20 Pro, at a gala launch event in Paris. True to the P-series lineage, the P20 Pro and P20  are camera-centric phones to the core. In fact, the P20 Pro has a total of three rear cameras (40MP+20MP+8MP). Another thing that stands out on the two phones is the iPhone X like notch, and interestingly, Huawei has an option to turn the Notch off by camouflaging it into the black status bar.

Both phones have glass body and front mounted fingerprint sensors.

Huawei P20 Pro

The Huawei P20 Pro comes with a 6.1-inch full HD+ OLED display with 2.5D glass on top. It’s powered by 10nm octa-core Kirin 970 processor paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The software on the phone is Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI 8.1. Within its 7.8mm body, the phone houses a 4000mAh battery.

The camera is the part Huawei takes religiously. There is conventional monochrome + color combination, but the color sensor has a 40MP resolution. You have the option to shoot full resolution images as well, but the regular mode combines four pixels into 1 (Huawei calls this Light Fusion) for more detailed pixels and shots 10MP images.

The third 8MP sensor has a telephoto lens and can be used for 3X optical zoom and 5X lossless zoom. The camera lens and imaging software have been developed in partnership with Leica. DxoMark score for the P20 Pro is 109 overall and 114 for photos, which is to say that it’s well ahead of all other flagships by a significant margin.

The front camera uses a 24MP Sony IMX576 sensor with f/2.0 aperture lens. This one too works with Light Fusion.

The camera also has a plethora of shooting modes, many powered by AI. For stabilization too, the new Huawei phones depend on AIS or Artificial intelligence stabilization.

Other Huawei P20 Pro features include Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C port, Fingerprint sensor, and Face Unlock.

The Huawei P20 Pro will be available in Black, Twilight and Pink Gold and Midnight Blue color options for 899 Euros or Approx. Rs. 72,000 starting from April 6 in Europe.

Huawei P20

The Huawei P20 has a slightly smaller 5.8-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD+ resolution. It’s powered by the same Kirin 970 chipset but with 4GB RAM. The internal storage (128GB) and software remain same. The Huawei P20 houses a slightly smaller 3400mAh battery.

As for cameras, it follows a more conventional approach. There is a 12MP color sensor combined with a 20MP monochrome sensor with Leica lenses on top. The selfie camera remains the same 24MP Sony IMX576 with f/2.0 aperture. The camera software is pretty similar on both phones. The P20 enjoys a DxoMark score of 102, which is second only to the P20 Pro.

Other features include Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, Fingerprint sensor, and Face Unlock.

The Huawei P20 comes in Black, Champagne Gold, Twilight, Pink Gold and Midnight Blue colors and is priced at 649 Euros or Rs. 52,241 approx. It will go on sale starting today in Europe.
