Samsung Galaxy A80 launched in India for INR47,990: Rotating triple cameras, Snapdragon 730G, and in-display fingerprint scanner

The Samsung Galaxy A80 had launched in Bangkok and Thailand back in April and after much waiting, the device has finally seen the daylight in India today. Priced at INR47,990 the Galaxy A80 is geared towards the upper midrange market in the country.

The Galaxy A80 other than a brand cachet boasts a triple-rear-camera setup that slides out and rotates towards the front to act as a selfie camera unit. It is also laced with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner and packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC. The Snapdragon 730G is a beefed-up version of the Snapdragon 730 in terms of GPU speed necessary for a better gaming experience.

Talking about the details, the Samsung Galaxy A80 sports a 6.7-inch 1980x2400p full HD+ Super AMOLED truly bezel-less display with no notch or hole punch. Samsung calls it “New Infinity” display  which comes with a 20:9 aspect ratio.

Regarding hardware, the Galaxy A80 draws power from an 8nm octa-core Snapdragon 735G SoC mated to 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, however, minus expandability support via microSD card.

On the rear side of the phone, there is a triple camera module in a horizontal layout. The setup consists of a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with f/2.0 aperture, an 8MP 123-degree ultra-wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and a 3D Time-of-Flight (FoT) depth sensor.

In software side of things, the Galaxy A80 boots Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box with One UI running atop. An AI-powered 37,000mAh battery equipped with 25W fast charging keeps the device juiced up.

The Galaxy A80 comes with 3D glass back design with metal trims. Besides an in-display fingerprint scanner, there is also a Facial Authentication feature, but the traditional 3.5mm audio jack has been sacrificed in favor of USB Type-C port.

The Galaxy A80 will go on sale on August 1 across all retail stores, Samsung Opera, e-Shop, and leading online channels. The phone will be put up for preorder from July 22 to July 31. The smartphone comes in three color options such as Ghost White, Phantom Black, and Angel Gold.

It will butt heads against the likes of the OnePlus 7 Pro, the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom, the Nokia 9 PureView, and the newly launched Redmi K20 Pro, of course.
