Spice mi-535 back

Spice is one of the well known brands in the Smartphone market. They are known to provide good quality phones at an affordable price. Spice Mi-535 Stellar Pinnacle Pro is one of their latest smartphone available in the market. So is Spice Mi-535 worth buying? Read on to find out.

Display & design

Spice Mi-535 is a normal looking Android smartphone. The phone measures 152 x 79 x 10.3 mm and weighs around 196 grams which makes it bit heavy as compare to other smartphones. Although the device is heavy as compare to other devices but the weight is well distributed and after using the device for 1 week it won’t be an issue while using the device. The front of the device contains a massive 5.3 inch IPS LCD touchscreen display.

The display has a 540 x 960 pixels resolution and 208ppi pixel density. Though it is not an HD display but we really it. It has decent viewing angels, contrast contrast levels, sunlight readability and color reproduction.

Above the display there is a earpiece, hidden proximity & ambient light sensor and a 5 megapixel camera. Normally smartphones have 5 megapixel back camera but spice has given it in the front so that you can enjoy photos & video calling.

On the right side you have a volume rocker and a dedicated camera key. We personally like the devices with a dedicated camera key as it makes it more convenient to capture images using the device. There are no buttons/keys present on the left side of the phone.

There is a 3.5mm Audio jack, microUSB port and a power/lock key present at the top of the device. At the bottom of the device you have a microphone and a small notch on the edge to open the back panel.

Moving to the back of the device, it has a 8 megapixel camera along with Dual LED flash, secondary mic for noise cancellation, loudspeaker and Spice branding just above the loudspeaker. It looks like that the back panel has a metallic finish but it is actually made up of plastic.

If you remove the back panel you will find a 2,550 mAh battery, 2 SIM card slots and a microSD card slot.

Overall the phone has good build quality and it would have been a perfect device in terms of design if it was bit lighter.

Hardware & Performance

Spice Mi-535 is powered by a 1.2 Ghz quad core processor along with PowerVr SGX 544 graphics chip and 1GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB internal storage which can be expanded by using a microSD card of upto 32GB storage. The device is powerful enough to handle most of your applications and games.

In normal usage the phone does not lag anywhere the interface is quite smooth and all the normal applications run on the device without any problems. Even while playing games like Dead trigger we did not face any lag. The device scored around 4000 in Quadrant Standard Benchmark test which is a decent score.

Software

The device runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS and Spice have made very less modifications to the stock Android. The phone comes pre-loaded with applications like Facebook etc.

There isn’t much to talk about the software since it is nearly the stock Android but yes one feature we like about the device is the option to Schedule Power on/off.

Camera

The phone comes with a 8 megapixel back camera with dual LED flash. The camera is capable of capturing decent images in day light conditions but in low night conditions or at night the camera simply give up.

The phone also has a 5 megapixel front facing camera which can be used to capture self portraits occasionally. Here are some sample images captured using the 8 megapixel back camera present on the device :

The quality of captured images is average. The device can be used for causal photography but don’t expect high quality images. Even with the flash low light images are not upto the mark.

Battery Life

Spice Mi-535 Stellar Pinnacle Pro comes with a 2,550mAh battery which can easily last for a day. With moderate usage we were able to use the device for more than a day. Nomal Users can even get up to 2 days of battery life. Overall the phone has a powerful battery backup and we don’t have any complaint with the battery life.

Conclusion

Spice Mi 535 is available in India for around Rs 13,000 (best buy price). The device is definitely worth the money. It has good build quality and it is a powerful device which can handle most of your apps and games. We really like the battery life of the device and the only problem we found with the device is its average camera. We would highly recommend the phone to users who are looking for an affordable Android smartphone with good build quality & performance.

Pros:

  • Build Quality
  • Price
  • Decent Performance
  • Battery Life

Cons:

  • Average Camera
